Okay, Fine. You say “you’re bad at math…”

Can you imagine someone saying, “Yeah, I suck at reading” and that being okay?

Do you make fun of babies when they’re starting to walk and they lose their balance and fall on their butts? (I hope not!)

When someone breaks their ankle, do we say, “Dude, you’re TERRIBLE at walking. Like REALLY REALLY BAD AT IT!”

You see where I’m going with this…

Ever split a cookie with a sibling? If so — congratulations! You’re already familiar with “one half”, and if you are the non-splitter, you know when those cookies are not equally sized.

That’s math. Math is simply a language that describes the patterns in our world. The human brain is wired to recognize patterns. I bet there is math you can do.

So you’re not “bad at math”, and it’s time to stop saying that like it’s true. There are so many different types of math in the world. I’ve never taken Calculus — does that make me “bad at math?”

However, there are a lot of reasons why someone may not be successful at certain kinds of math:

  • Math anxiety (#1 reason!)

WHAT MATH ARE you GOOD AT?

WHY GIVE UP WhEN You can get help?

…but shouldn’t.
